BACKGROUND
The African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ARSCP) was established in May, 2004 in Casablanca, Morocco, by Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) practitioners in Africa as the foremost professional not for profit non governmental organization on SCP and registered under the Societies Registration Act of Tanzania in 2005.

The Organization operates with full backing of the Marrakech Taskforce on Cooperation with Africa and the United Nations bodies particularly UNEP and UNIDO. The membership of the Organization is open to institutions and individuals with interest in SCP. So far, its members comprise the National Cleaner Production Centres in Africa, research and academic institutions, researchers and academicians, scientists, businessmen and general community members.

The ARSCP now has over 100 members scattered all over Africa and outside Africa. The ARSCP already has an established Secretariat and the Cleaner production Centre of Tanzania acts and hosts this Secretariat.

The Organization is controlled, administered and managed by an Executive Board elected by members on two year terms.
