Company Description:

The Wood Family Trust (WFT) is a Scottish registered charity established by UK industrialist Sir Ian Wood and his family with a key objective to improve livelihoods by stimulating viable market opportunities that will in turn create jobs and generate wealth among the rural poor. This vision is shared by Lord David Sainsbury, a well-known British businessman and former politician who is also founder of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation.

Together Sir Ian and Lord Sainsbury, through their respective charitable entities, have joined resources in a coordinated effort to support transformation of the tea sector in Tanzania.

Over a six year period the Chai Project WFT/Gatsby will commit up to $9 million with the aspiration of: 1) doubling smallholder made tea production; and 2) increasing overall competitiveness of the sector.
