The name "Hill Bottom" was derived from an old Ethiopian song called, Gara sere newe betish. Originally, Hill Bottom was located and designed to be at the foot of the hill but was not realized due to unforeseen reasons. Albeit unfortunate circumstances, the name still remains the same.

Hill Bottom is now built on the upper escarpment of Ayat roundabout. Located only about 9 KM from Megenagna which is considered to be the linking point to downtown and the rest of Addis Ababa. Its is roughly about 16km from Sheraton and Hilton Hotels. It has an extraordinary panoramic view of surrounding mountains, Yerer, Gara Biru, Zekuala, Gurage Gara and Wechecha. Hill Bottom is right at the heart of the main residential area of CMC, Summit, Sunshine, CCD, Ropak and Ayat where by these areas are considered to be the dwellings of the Bourgeoisie and the 'White-Collars' of the capital.
