Background: Harvard School of Public Health’s PEPFAR program has assisted local institutions in Tanzania to develop an effective program for the treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS. The Harvard Tanzania PEPFAR program supports provision of HIV/AIDS care and treatment services for more than 60,000 patients at forty-seven sites within the Dar-es-Salaam Region. With its local partner institutions, Harvard has organized a locally-chartered NGO, known as “MDH,” that will gradually assume responsibility for the current Harvard PEPFAR program.
