ICPAU is a professional accountancy body established by The Accountants Act, Cap 266, and its main functions are to regulate and maintain the Standard of Accountancy in Uganda; and to prescribe or regulate the conduct of accountants in Uganda.

ICPAU is a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Eastern Central and Southern African Federation of Accountants (ECSAFA).
